IMI - Live Events - Fashion & Finance

Independent Means is known for engaging experiential education. Our training sessions reflect our understanding that fun is a core element of the education process. The program will model our methods and off-hours we will host dinner at one of Santa Barbara's best restaurants, enjoy wine tasting, and experience some of Santa Barbara's best features!

Day 1

Lunch: Introductions and Expectations: Review agenda, goals, expectations, expected outcomes.

Meet one another and the IMI Team.

2:30 - 3:00

Great Families Training. Getting Families Started. Most families have good intentions about developing financially capable kids; great families are intentional. In this session, Joline will describe ‘best practices’ of other families and explain IMI’s methodology and practice.

3:00 - 4:00

Getting a Baseline–Where to Start. A good starting place is very often a family conversation. Joline will walk through some of the tools IMI uses to get conversations going and baselines in place. Tools such as the Human Capital Audit, MoneyStyles, and MoneyScore will be explored.

4:00 - 4:30

Great Families Training: Each stage of the Great Families Program includes activities and experiences that cover financial concepts, values, and skills appropriate to each developmental stage. This session will cover the Savings module from Stage 1 (5–8).

4:30 - 5:30

Great Families Training: Nurturing and encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit: Part I. This session will cover the first half of the Entrepreneurship module from Stage 2 (9–12).

Great Families Training: Nurturing and encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit: Part II. This session will cover the second half of the Entrepreneurship module from Stage 2 (9–12).

9:15 - 10:15

Great Families Training: Preparing Teens and Young Adults for the Responsibilities of Wealth. Includes review of the Cash Flow and Allowance Management module from Stage 3 (13–15).

10:30 - 11:30

Great Families Training: Young people have a right to feel comfortable about the financial facts of their lives without feeling ashamed or questioned inappropriately. This session will cover the Hard Conversations module from Stage 4 (16–18).

11:45 - 12:30

Lunch – Louies at Upham Hotel

12:45 - 2:00

Great Families Training: Though reflection on one’s mission statement is a lifelong pursuit, this module provides members with tools for reassessing purpose. This session will cover the Personal Economic Mission Statement module from Stage 5 (19 +).

2:00 - 3:00

Taking it Home: Next Steps in Family Education: Review and discussion of materials covered and how to share the information once you get home.

Fashion and Finance NYC
This dual-generation program takes fashion forward youth and their mentors, on a three day exclusive behind the scenes adventure through the NYC fashion industry.

 

Camp Start-Up
Our 10-day residential camp offers teens (ages 14-18) experiences that will give them the skills to start something great—launch a company, run a non-profit, or just be prepared for life beyond high school. This two-day program gives 14-17 year old girls on the brink of financial independence a chance to practice language and skills that make us financially self-confident.

 

Launch Prep
This inspiring and practical two-day workshop helps young people develop intentional plans for careers, education, and exploration.
