Camp Start-Up Staff
At Camp Start-Up, we maintain a one-to-six counselor-to-participant ratio. Our staff come from a variety of backgrounds—including entrepreneurs, graduates of top MBA programs, and teachers. Each session also has an experienced director and assistant director. Staff reside in the dorms with the participants and are on call 24 hours a day. Campers work in teams to develop a business plan and investment portfolio. Each team is assigned a counselor who coaches the team from the development of their plan and portfolio through their final presentations.
Camp Start-Up is directed by Melinda Little. Little is a serial entrepreneur and the step-mom of a 16-year old son. Prior to helping found Independent Means Inc. in the '90s, Little was the president and CEO of The Company of Women, a national mail-order catalog company that grew to sales of over $1 million. As a volunteer, she lead the team that established the first community-owned department store in New York State. She's also the Treasurer of the Tri-Lakes Humane Society. Little has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and a BA from Wellesley College.
